For First-Time Cat Café Visitors
A Guide to Interacting with Our Cats

Before You Come In
① Please wash and sanitize your hands
To protect the cats’ health, please sanitize your hands with alcohol when you arrive (and when you leave).
② Please keep scents to a minimum
Cats are very sensitive to smells. Perfume and strongly scented fabric softener can make cats dislike you and keep their distance.
③ Please wear socks
For hygiene reasons, please wear socks or change into slippers inside the café (slippers are provided). We also ask that small children wear socks whenever possible.

Basic Manners
① Wait for the cats to come to you
Cats are curious but also cautious. Instead of reaching out suddenly, sit and wait quietly — they’ll often come over to sniff you.
② Get down low and be gentle
Cats feel intimidated when people look down at them or approach while standing. Crouch or sit on the floor to meet them at eye level and they’ll feel safe.
③ Avoid loud noises and voices
Cats dislike loud noises and sudden movements. Walk slowly in the café — cats prefer a calm, slightly higher-pitched voice. Calling a cat by name may get a reply or bring them over, so be sure to check their names!

Petting Tips
① Say hello with a fingertip
Instead of petting right away, gently offer your index finger near the cat’s nose. If they sniff it and rub their nose against it, that’s their way of saying hello.
② Spots cats love
Cats love being gently stroked in places they can’t groom themselves, such as the top of the head, under the chin, behind the ears and around the neck. Scratch gently with your fingers or stroke along the direction of their fur.
③ Spots cats don’t like
Cats dislike being touched on the belly, tail, paws and paw pads. They may give a soft nibble, so if a cat seems unhappy, please leave them be.

Things Not to Do
① Don’t chase or grab the cats
Chasing a cat that is trying to get away causes stress. Stay calm and approach quietly.
② Don’t wake sleeping cats
Cats spend most of the day sleeping. When they’re sleeping peacefully, touch them gently or simply enjoy watching their sleeping faces.
③ Don’t give food or drinks
Human food can be harmful to cats. Please only give the special treats provided by the café.
